In addition, google is setting up 100,000 hot spots throughout the state to assist families that need internet connectivity. As the district gets more information, it will be shared with parents.
Distance Learning Rules
EUSD Distance Learning involves a variety of components including but not limited to: online face to face live (Google Hangout/Meet, Zoom, etc.), watching live instruction using slides, watching videos of teachers prerecorded, workbook time, independent work, project work, group work, online learning resources (YouTube/Khan Academy/other video platforms).
Parents and/or Guardians may wish to not allow their child(ren) to participate in online face to face live interactions with their teachers. If so, all the remaining components of distance learning are still available to the student. Students will still be able to interact with teachers via email, watching live instruction using slides, watching videos of teachers prerecorded lessons, etc. Students will be able to access their assigned work, which will be graded, either through google classroom or through an assignment folder located on their school website. Online lessons with student interaction will be recorded and archived for district use and will be available for student use only through Google classroom.
Please be advised that no parent or student shall record any videoconference instruction. Education Code section 51512 states in pertinent part:
Use by any person, including a pupil, of any electronic listening or recording device in any classroom of the elementary and secondary schools without the prior consent of the teacher and the principal of the school given to promote an educational purpose disrupts and impairs the teaching process and discipline in the elementary and secondary schools, and such use is prohibited. Any person, other than a pupil, who willfully violates this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
Any pupil violating this section shall be subject to appropriate disciplinary action.
EUSD’s Distance Learning includes direct and/or indirect instruction provided by EUSD and/or its employees or representatives via any and all electronic means and platforms including, but not limited to, Zoom or Google Hangouts/Meet, email, instant/private messaging, virtual office hours, videoconferencing, and/or prerecorded lessons. The “user” includes anyone using laptops, computers, tablets, Internet, email, and/or any other forms of electronic communication or equipment, whether or not provided by EUSD, and regardless of the physical location of the user and/or the electronic equipment or platform(s) used, to access or communicate with or through Distance Learning.
